Join Charles River for Evidence-Based Recovery: Uniting Research, Treatment, and Support for Lasting Healing

At Charles River Recovery, we recognize that those who struggle with addiction are our neighbors, friends, and family members. Many of those people are our best and our brightest; people we love and care about. We also recognize that our greatest strengths are in the spirit of our community, the ingenuity in the fields of medicine and technology, and the expertise and heart of our people. With this in mind, Charles River Recovery was founded, offering inpatient detox and clinical stabilization services at our safe and comfortable facility in Weston, Massachusetts.

At Charles River Recovery, we believe in building a foundation for long-term recovery. The treatment you can expect is personalized, and evidence-based. We utilize all forms of Medication Assisted Recovery and work closely with our community partners for comprehensive, personalized aftercare planning. At Charles River Recovery, we believe it is our responsibility to care for our community. Here, we take care of our own.

Charles River brings evidence-based data and trauma-informed with unprecedented interaction between researchers, clinicians, patients, and their families to give individuals the tools to overcome their dependencies. We work together to provide the rapid introduction of new findings to maximize treatment success and establish the foundation for long-term recovery. Our team is focused on advancing the scientific and medical understanding of addiction and incorporating research and treatment into one setting for effective quality care.

Amy Lewis

Amy Lewis, Director of Nursing at Charles River Recovery, has over 14 years of nursing experience working with adults with mental illness and co-occurring disorders. Prior to her nursing career, Lewis worked in a vocational rehabilitation center helping adults suffering from mental illness return to the workforce. After a traumatic childbirth experience, Lewis changed her career path to become a nurse because, as she says, “it was the nurses that helped me process everything, and I wanted to be there for others when they also had the worst day of their lives.” Amy Lewis obtained a B.A. in Nursing from Southern New Hampshire University and is an American Red Cross instructor.

Amy has seen the devastating effects addiction can have on families through her experience running a crisis stabilization unit for adults struggling with mental health exacerbations. Her experiences have taught her recovery and reunification is more than possible.

Amy’s Charles River Recovery Why: “I believe Charles River Recovery is doing something special for our community and I am excited to support the mission.”

Ximena Sanchez-Samper

Ximena Sanchez-Samper, MD is a Board- Certified Addiction Psychiatrist who obtained her degree as a psychiatrist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and completed her Addictions Fellowship through the combined Massachusetts General Hospital, McLean Hospital / Brigham and Women’s Hospital Addictions Fellowship program in 2004. Since then, she has treated adults of all ages struggling with mental health and substance use disorders and has also provided care to adolescents and young adults (as well as their families) at both Boston Children’s Hospital and McLean Hospital.

Dr. Sanchez-Samper is a vocal advocate of incorporating Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) into the comprehensive care of patients of all ages struggling with Opioid Use Disorders and/or Alcohol Use Disorders. She co-authored a book chapter in the Handbook of Office-Based Treatment of Opioid Dependence and published an article in Pediatrics in Review addressing the needs of patients struggling with substance use disorders and their aftermath. Her passion and commitment to her work stems from her desire to honor her own family members who have struggled with mental health and substance use disorders. She is a true believer that “there are different paths to recovery” and that care should be individualized in order to identify and support each person’s course of treatment and recovery process.

Dr. Sanchez-Samper’s Charles River Recovery Why: “I look forward to using my knowledge and love for teaching to serve the Charles River Recovery community.”
