IOP for Wellesley Residents Seeking Evening Recovery Support

Many people who call us from Wellesley are balancing work, family, and daily responsibilities. They may have jobs, families, and schedules that make daytime treatment difficult.

Our Evening Intensive Outpatient Program runs three evenings a week from our Weston campus and was built specifically for people who need structured recovery support without stepping away from their daily life. We verify insurance before your first session, so there are no surprises.

When Weekly Therapy Is Not Enough

Many clients consider IOP when weekly outpatient sessions are not enough. For active substance use concerns, weekly therapy may not provide enough structure. More frequent support can help reduce the gaps between sessions.

Evening IOP provides added structure during the week. Three sessions a week means we are in consistent contact with you while you build coping skills and relapse-prevention strategies.

This is the level of care that fits between weekly therapy and a full-day treatment programme. If you have completed detox or PHP and need a structured step-down, or if you are starting treatment and cannot attend during the day, evening IOP may be an appropriate starting point after a clinical assessment.

How The Program Runs At Charles River Recovery

Each week involves three evening sessions. Sessions combine group therapy, individual therapy, and, where clinically indicated, medication management and psychiatric support. The therapeutic framework draws on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for emotional regulation and relationship skills, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to address the thought patterns that sustain substance use.

We do not offer one-size-fits-all treatment. Treatment plans are written for the individual: their substance use history, co-occurring mental health conditions, and where they are in recovery. Dual diagnosis cases, where substance use disorder and a mental health condition are present together, are handled as a single integrated case, not as two separate referrals.

We do not start treatment without a clinical assessment. That assessment determines the right level of care and the right plan before your first session begins.

Who Runs The Clinical Program?

Our clinical programme is led by a Director of Clinical Services credentialed as an LADC I and LMHC with EMDR training and fifteen years in behavioral healthcare.

Medical oversight sits with our Medical Director, who is dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine and serves as teaching faculty at Harvard Medical School and as an Attending Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Licensed addiction counselors and recovery specialists lead group sessions. You will work with Charles River Recovery’s clinical team throughout your program.

Why Wellesley Residents Choose Our Weston Campus

Charles River Recovery is located at 75 Norumbega Rd in Weston, near Wellesley, and accessible by car.  Drive times vary by starting point and traffic, so Wellesley residents should plan around their evening schedule. Evening sessions fall after standard work hours, so you travel once work is done rather than breaking your day.

Wellesley’s commuter rail line (Framingham/Worcester Line) stops in Wellesley Hills, Wellesley Square, and Wellesley Farms. Our campus at 75 Norumbega Rd, Weston, is accessible by car, and clients can plan the route from the station they use. We can also arrange transportation to the facility for clients who need it.

The people who come to us from Wellesley may include working professionals or parents managing family obligations. The evening schedule exists because of that reality. We do not ask you to choose between treatment and your responsibilities.

What Charles River Recovery Covers And How To Start A Claim

We accept most insurance plans and list Cigna, Aetna, Allways Health Partners, Optum, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, UnitedHealthcare, ConnectiCare, Tufts Health Plan, Oxford Health Plans, and Blue Cross Blue Shield on our insurance verification page. We also accept most other major insurance plans beyond this list.

We verify your benefits before you start treatment. Call us with your insurance card, and we will confirm what is covered before any commitment is made. Payment options may be available for clients whose plan does not cover the program.

Admissions includes a clinical assessment and benefit verification, so care needs and coverage can be reviewed together. The clinical assessment helps determine care needs, while the benefits check helps clarify coverage before treatment begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does evening IOP last?

Program length depends on your clinical picture and how recovery progresses. Evening IOP typically runs 6 to 12 weeks, with session frequency reviewed as treatment advances. We will give you a realistic picture of what to expect at your assessment.

Not always. Detox may be recommended when there is medically significant physical dependence, especially with substances that can involve withdrawal risk, such as alcohol, benzodiazepines, or opioids. If the assessment shows that medically monitored detox is not needed, you may be able to enter IOP directly. We assess this on your first call.

The programme covers alcohol use disorder, opioid use disorder, cocaine and stimulant use, benzodiazepine and prescription pill misuse, methamphetamine use, and co-occurring mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and dual diagnosis presentations.

Yes. The evening schedule was designed for that situation. We ask you to keep sessions consistent, but we do not ask you to take time off work to attend.

Graduates of our programme are connected to our Alumni network, which runs weekly group sessions, follow-up contact via text, call, and email, and quarterly community events. Recovery does not end at discharge. We stay in contact.
